Targeted Grazing.
The key to what we do is that we always keep our flock moving. With our system of portable electric fencing and stellar working dogs we can graze virtually anywhere. This is essential for both the animals and the lands well being. Shoal Shepherds Grazing Co is now available for contracted grazing in the greater Penobscot Bay Area.
The Process
Sight assessment : The first step will plan out a viable paddock on our pasture maps system to calculate the amount of acres to be grazed.
Then we will walk the area with you to determine the available forage, site considerations, desired impact and short/long term goals. This is best done during the growing season (May-September.)
Circuit Coordination : In our regenerative system, we plan all of our grazing sites before the growing season begins. In doing this, we can be the most efficient with our moves and get to the grass before it goes to seed and becomes less palatable for the flock. Once your land enters our grazing circuit, it is grazed with a high density of ruminants (sheep/goats/cows) and then left to rest for a minimum of 30 days.
Grazing : Let them at it! After we transport the flock via boat, barge, trailer or hoof to you, we set up our temporary fences and turn them in. The rest is solar conversion.
